The vibrant city of Newcastle, well-known for its cultural pursuits, pubs, restaurants and the extensive shopping facilities including Eldon Square and Gateshead Metro Centre, along with the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Baltic Centre and the Sage Gateshead music venue are just over 20 miles east.

Vindolanda, Thirlwell Castle, a quarry wildlife park, The Roman Army Museum and Walltown Craggs – the highest remaining section of Hadrian’s Wall - are all interesting visitor attractions within easy reach. Horse-riders, ramblers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the surrounding heather moorlands with rugged uplands. The North Pennines provide miles of beautiful walks and spectacular sights such as High Force; England’s largest waterfall. Bowes Museum, Killhope Lead Mining Museum are also interesting historic attractions within easy driving distance.
